I’ll be honest. I wrote my first book because I was taken aback that people in my own family didn’t believe my story when I told them what happened to me. I thought, Really? You think I’d lie about something like this?
So, I got published and told the world instead.
My writing career and focus has certainly evolved since then. I found out how effectual writing the truth can be and all that it can accomplish in lives of people. It’s no longer about my own validation or even my own narrative. My writing has become all about helping others find their voices and healing and freedom through that proverbial power of the pen.
Juxtaposed: Finding Sanctuary on the Outside has become the foundation and building block for the rest of my literary efforts and has afforded me many opportunities to work with those who have been marginalized by abuse and poverty. I wrote If It’s Happened to You for those who are still struggling with the despair of betrayal and abandonment and make it available for free on my website, www.daisyrainmartin.com. My book, Hope Givers: Hope is Here launched March of 2016.
Finally, my blog SATURDAISIES has developed quite a following every Saturday. Certainly, writing has opened up a world for me that is beyond anything I could have ever thought or even imagined. Being a part of the Flying M-Inklings has been a tremendous blessing for me — just to gather with like-minded people who get it is phenomenal. These writers have spurred me on in my journey, and I hope that I have done the same for them. The collective energy we create every week has become a lifeline for our success, and I am grateful to be part of such an amazing team of people.
